My First MBA Chits Experience

We have this habit of sittin everyday in the morning at CCD opposite college and studyin for the days exam.. Roop teaches everyday in the morning and the good reason we get better marks is cuz’ of him :P Thanks patthe :D
Same thing happened today morning.. We went to CCD and were studyin for the Business Communications exam (which is supposed to be only English in our perception :P). Roop studied everything early morning at his place and came to teach us at CCD. And whatever he spoke was all alien stuff for all of us. We are around 10 ppl everyday who come to study from him.. ha ha..
I have written 4 semesters in my MBA till now and wrote the toughest exams possible without any help or chits or copying :P I dunno what struck us while we finished studyin at around 9.45am. Dev and me took the papers we studied from and went to the Xerox shop near college and got mini Xerox’s.. 5 copies for friends & myself :P. Met a friend at the Xerox shop. He was getting ready for his battle. He had detailed stuff of the answers which we were takin and we took copies of his stuff aswell.. ha ha ha..
I guess I had 8 chits with me and  hidden at different places. Hidin them was a smart task to pass cuz we have checkin before we enter the exam room in college..
Believe me it was so so so much fun :D Taking chits for an english exam.. Oh My God.. Loved writin the exam today.. passin chits to ppl around and happily writin the exam.. lmao..

I’ll miss these college days..!! Wish they never come to an end!!

Love all my friend.. :D

A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum:

Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?

I'm going to be honest of what I'm going to say here. I'm 25 this year. I'm very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above. You might say that I'm greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York. My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married? I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you? Among those I've
dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit. If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden ( ? ) , $250k annual income is not enough.

I'm here humbly to ask a few questions:

1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym).

2) Which age group should I target?

3) Why most wives of the riches is only average-looking? I've met a few girls who doesn't have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys.

4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)

Ms. Pretty

Awesome reply:

Dear Ms. Pretty,

I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyse your situation as a professional investor. My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I'm not wasting time here. From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you.. The answer is very simple, so let me explain.

Put the details aside, what you're trying to do is an exchange of 'beauty' and 'money': Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square. However, there's a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can't be prettier year after year.

Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It's not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worried 10 years later.

By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a 'trading position'. If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term - same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or 'leased'. Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps. If you are interested in 'leasing' services, do
contact me...

Signed.

The 99 Club

Once upon a time, there lived a King who, despite his luxurious lifestyle, was neither happy nor content.

One day, the King came upon a servant who was singing happily while he worked. This fascinated the King; why was he, the Supreme Ruler of the Land, unhappy and gloomy, while a lowly servant had so much joy.

The King asked the servant, "Why are you so happy?"

The man replied, "Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant, but my family and I don't need too much - just a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummies."

The king was not satisfied with that reply. Later in the day, he sought the advice of his most trusted advisor.

After hearing the King's woes and the servant's story, the advisor said, "Your Majesty, I believe that the servant has not been made part of The 99 Club."

"The 99 Club? And what exactly is that?" the King inquired.

The advisor replied, "Your Majesty, to truly know what The 99 Club is, place 99 Gold coins in a bag and leave it at this servant's doorstep."

When the servant saw the bag, he took it into his house. When he opened the bag, he let out a great shout of joy... so many gold coins!

He began to count them. After several counts, he was at last convinced that there were 99 coins. He wondered, "What could've happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave 99 coins!" He looked everywhere he could, but that final coin was elusive.

Finally, exhausted, he decided that he was going to have to work harder than ever to earn that gold coin and complete his collection.

From that day, the servant's life was changed. He was overworked, horribly grumpy, and castigated his family for not helping him make that 100th gold coin. He stopped singing while he worked.

Witnessing this drastic transformation, the King was puzzled. When he sought his advisor's help, the advisor said, "Your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined The 99 Club.

He continued, "The 99 Club is a name given to those people who have enough to be happy but are never content, because they're always yearning and striving for that extra 1 telling to themselves:

"Let me get that one final thing and then I will be happy for life."

We can be happy, even with very little in our lives, but the minute we're given something bigger and better, we want even more! We lose our sleep, our happiness, we hurt the people around us; all these as a price for our growing needs and desires.

That's what joining The 99 Club is all about.

Stock Market

Once in a village
A man came and said he would buy monkeys at Rs.10 as there were lot of monkeys around.
The villagers started catching monkeys.
The man bought thousands of monkeys at Rs.10.
Soon there were no monkeys around.
Now the man said he would buy monkeys at Rs.20.
Vilagers renewed their efforts but could not supply.
They started to their original works.
Man increased offer to Rs.30.
Supply was nil.
Man now said he would buy at Rs.50.
But as he had some work in city he is going and in his absence, assistants would buy monkeys on his behalf.
Later one of the assistants showed villagers the monkeys they collected and said he would sell them at Rs.35 and they can sell the same to the man at Rs.50.
The villagers squeezed all their savings and bought all the monkeys.
But they never saw the man nor his assistants but only monkeys evrywhere in the village!
This is what called the Stock Market!

Life Explained! How True!!

The first day of our evolution,
God created the dog and said: 'Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. For this, I will give you a life span of twenty years.' The dog said: 'That's a long time to be barking. How about only ten years and I'll give you back the other ten?' So God agreed.
On the second day, God created the monkey and said: 'Entertain people, do tricks, and make them laugh. For this, I'll give you a twenty-year life span.' The monkey said: 'Monkey tricks for twenty years? That's a pretty long time to perform. How about I give you back ten like the Dog did?'
And God agreed. On the third day, God created the cow and said: 'You must go into the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer's family. For this, I will give you a life span of sixty years.' The cow said: 'That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years.. How about twenty and I'll give back the other forty?' And God agreed again.
On the fourth day, God created humans and said: 'Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. For this, I'll give you twenty years.' But the human said: 'Only twenty years? Could you possibly give me my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the monkey gave back, and the ten the dog gave back; that makes eighty, okay?' 'Okay,' said God, 'You asked for it.'
So that is why for our first twenty years we eat, sleep, play and enjoy ourselves. For the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family.. For the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren.. And for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

When the heart is more beautiful than the face!

Found this really Beautiful.. Have a lil' patience Read it!!

The rain pouring out heavily invited me for a rendezvous but then I had a session. Just as I checked the time on my cell, the knock at the door announced the arrival.

The assistant informed me of the client and I asked her to send them in.. The couple in their late twenties. A second later the door opened again and I beckoned them to come in..

This man came in … straight out of Bollywood or rather Hollywood.

Accompanying this 6+ft guy was this lady… Very thin , and looking unwell.
I wondered what brought them here. They didn't look like your usual battlefield couples that come for counseling. Generally when couples came in the first noticeable thing they did was pulling chairs apart. Here he pulled it closer. Asked her if she was fine. The body language suggested care and concern. I sat back amused and let them speak.

This couple was married about 10 years back. A love marriage.. Intercaste marriage they braved many storms to be together .Then a couple of years back destiny struck.

She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer..The disease took a toll on her, drained her physically and psychologically. Her husband stood like the rock of Gibralter.. A pillar of strength.

Yet….

She now feels inadequate for various reasons. One her inability now to conceive, Two her looks that she thought was her identity and description She could not come to terms with the way she looked now. Her health was bad enough and her depression she thought was contagious spreading all around wherever she went.
She thought him too young to be saddled with problems and wished him a better life. She wanted a separation. She wanted him to move on with life..
She didn't want to be responsible for ruining his youth, his future. She said she loved him and wanted to let him go… to live better.

The moment she said that I looked at her husband. He looked hurt. Deeply hurt.
This is what he had to say and this is what prompted me to write this blog:

" I love her for what she is. Yes I liked her looks when I first met her but that was because that was the first noticeable thing, As I got to know her I realized how much more beautiful she is on the inside. I can never love anyone after I have experienced this beauty. Everyone else fails in comparison. What I see her as is her real self and to see her for her beauty you need to look through my eyes and not the mirror. The mirror has its set of lies and one of that is about her looks. To know her, look through me. I do not want any other happiness, I promised to be with her through thick and thin and I will be there no matter what. I will never leave her. She can throw me out , but I will continue living on the doorstep. I need her to know that these suggestions by her are an insult to my love. Is love only about looks?. Is beauty just about skin? If I were to go through the same would she leave me? I would never be able to do that. For me she is highly fecund , producing a higher degree love everytime I look at her. I love her truly and deeply and this is why I'm here to take your help and let her know the value of a relationship that goes beyond all these fallacies of appearances."

What a magnanimous man!

I wasn't the only one with tears, there was this beauty in front of me crying yet unaware of it. I excused myself and walked out.. I was glad they came to me though honestly all I did was listen to them but I saw a lovely example of true love. Their coming here was important for them and for me. To witness such love is a blessing.

These days when relations are so fragile and break at the slightest of excuses like:
She/ He is too fat
She can't cook
She doesn't work
He is hardly earning enough
We need space
He/She smokes/drinks
She isn't glamourous enough
He/She can't satisfy me
She/He doesn't get along with inlaws , friends etc.

And many such excuses so inane , obfuscating the whole concept of marriages, just desperately searching a way out. This person purely defined something so perfect. Perfect love that transcends all these fallacies of looks.

This especially is so important when people marry only on the basis of looks. Yes the matrimonial columns are all about how slim and beautiful your bride needs to be. But then one must realize that EXTERNAL BEAUTY IS SO TEMPORARY. The true beauty lies within. Appreciate that and see love blossom.

The truth about B-School salaries

I got this from somewhere and I found it really interesting to read.. Its the fact and the truth...
Read it and leave Your comments!!

This is indeed a long post. But this post essentially sums up what we believe in and what actually the aspirants and everyone else ought to know. Prof Saral Mukherjee, Chairperson, IIMA Placement Committee has expressed his views on  the hype surrounding the inflated and incorrectly quoted salary figures and sensationalism surrounding this created by the media. Professor Mukherjee says,

" Have you ever marvelled at the salary packages being offered at B-Schools? The more they reach stratospheric realms, the more intriguing the news reports become. Recently, a leading daily published an unverified report stating that an IIM Ahmedabad (IIMA) student had bagged a salary of more than 1.44 crore rupees. The news article soon became one of the most read news articles on the newspaper's website. Stratospheric salaries equal highest readership, the equation seems very clear. The article was misleading and the IIMA Media Cell published a rejoinder in its blog stating the figure as incorrect. As to be expected, the rejoinder did not get as many reviews as the original report.

The publishing of the rejoinder in a blog was in some sense a fundamental yet silent shift. It signalled the unwillingness of the student body to be mute spectators when incorrect information is published. It signalled the use of a new media in connecting to the outside world. It signalled to the world that IIMA students are mature enough to disassociate themselves from a very flattering portrayal if the portrayal is not true. The truth about highest salaries was always known on B-School campuses. You just kept silent when the press glossed over the minor details.

The truth is that the readers are being fed garbage. The highest salary offered in a B-School is typically a dollar denominated salary. The first trick in sensationalism is to convert the dollar figure to a rupee amount. The two are not comparable as the dollar salary would not be earned in India but in a country with a substantially higher cost of living. The second trick is to refrain from mentioning the amount of bonus. Bonus component of a salary package is contingent on performance. Consider a firm which stipulates that performance linked bonus would range from a minimum 40 per cent to 300 per cent. Which number should be used for reporting – 40 or 300 or an average value? Some firms may have a one-time sign-in bonus. The assumptions about bonus component are of course too mundane a detail to grace a front page report. Similarly, I am sure, readers would like to be spared the reporting of exchange rates at which the dollar-rupee conversion was done. Forget the fact that the bonus is likely to be paid, if at all, at a later date and hence subject to currency risk.

The highest domestic salary is also not free from distortion as it may involve substantial performance linked bonus. Additionally, what gets reported is the Cost to Company (CTC), a fuzzy word whose definition varies from one firm to another. The take home salary is sometimes a tiny fraction of the CTC. Not all firms may declare the compensation package or the breakup at the time the press release is circulated, typically the day placements end. Not all firms may want to declare compensation packages. Typically this happens for the PGPX and PGP-PMP programmes where students typically have an average of more than ten years work experience and are placed in middle to senior level positions. At these levels, the salary negotiation is a private matter between the student and the recruiter and can vary considerably from one student to another taking up similar roles in the same firm.

The story does not end with the reporting of highest salary. Soon one B-School is compared to another based on the highest salary offered at the two campuses. Little attention is paid to the fact that there are may be no equivalence of underlying assumptions used for determining the highest salary offered between institutes and even from one batch to the next for the same institute. The highest salary is of course not representative of the entire batch. The fixation with this one figure in turn fuels an aspiration among youngsters to announce to the world they have arrived. What good is it to study in a B-School if you did not get the highest salary on offer? It matters little what is the role on offer, the location concerned or the associated career path. Every job offer can now be safely measured and compared to another based on the salary component. The formal announcement of the highest salary figure and its associated prize winner is the final crowning glory of years of hard work. And in this mad rush to identify the jackpot winner we lose sight of the fact that the campus placement is only the first step in an arduous process of facing challenges and building oneself for a leadership role. It is not the end of the journey, just the beginning.

Strangely, the interest among readers to learn about highest salary figures at B-Schools seems to have an India flavour. I ask the reader to find out from the internet the highest salary package at any elite US B-School last year. You may be surprised at the lack of information. Most schools report median salaries and not highest salaries. The average salary offered has the same deficiencies as the highest salary figure. The only positive is that because of averaging the figure does not 'belong' to anyone. It has no claimant since few would want to be called 'average' I guess. It is a tolerable nuisance simply because of its impersonal nature.

With the rise in costs of an MBA education, many B-School students are forced to take educational loans for covering their expenses. Hence the salary package post an MBA education is an important determinant of the viability of investing two years of one's life in an MBA education. To that extent, the media frenzy regarding highest salary packages in the last decade coincides with the hikes in educational fees. My suggestion is to never base a decision to take an educational loan on the highest package but on the average salary figure, that too after making sizeable reductions from the CTC value to arrive at the take home salary. The payback period for an IIM degree is still among the lowest in the world.  Historically there have been little to differentiate among IIMs on average salaries and fees.  Hence there is little justification in looking at the highest salary details coming out of B-Schools for selecting the right school. MBA aspirants should look at the profile of job offers at campuses at their entirety, not just the salary package and definitely not the highest package.

The overriding focus on jobs and salaries and payback periods takes one away from the idea of investing in an education for progress and development, both at an individual and at a societal level. If we need to change this situation we need to stop focussing on the highest salary figure as a first step. At IIM Ahmedabad, we stopped reporting highest salary figures years ago. We report the average salary separately for domestic and international offers, thereby negating the need for currency exchange rates. We dislike IIMA being compared on any salary dimension of an outgoing batch, highest or average or some other measure of central tendency. If compare you must, compare the impact on society by a school's students and faculty. Unfortunately that is a much difficult proposition than a simple comparison of highest salary of the outgoing batch. "
