Add fonts on BlackBerry Without Using Any Application

I wanted to add the Ubuntu font on my Blackberry 9900 which isn't available by default and was searching for a solution and here it is. Now you can use any font you want (not all are compatible), just follow these steps and you can do it within minutes without using any apps or without any big deal. I added the Ubuntu and some other fonts in my Blackberry and its working great :D 

But before we tell you how, do keep in mind that this procedure could damage your device. Thus, follow the instructions at your own risk. Better yet, do not attempt to proceed if you aren’t really sure of what you are doing. So far, this procedure works well on devices with BlackBerry OS 7.1 and below. If ever you encounter some problems, do lemme know.

Step 1: You must download a file manager that can manage your zip files. (Ex. FileScout, Rock File Manager, etc) This is a one-time set-up so you’ll be required to do this once. 

Step 2: Change the options in the file manager. See to it that you have enabled the option show the hidden files and folders. (Or connect your mobile to your PC/Laptop, Show hidden files and folders, open the connected blackberry folder, locate the appdata folder and move ahead - - - I did it this way).

Step 3: Go to /Device Memory/appdata/rim/* and create a sub-folder called fonts. This will make the folder location into /Device Memory/appdata/rim/fonts/*. In some cases, your file manager’s Device Memory will be called as /store/. Just locate this directory and your fonts directory should be called as /store/appdata/rim/fonts/*.

Step 4: In this particular step, you will need to find a font of your choice. The font must be in TrueType format (.ttf). For example, ‘Ubuntu-R.ttf’

Step 5: Download the font and unzip if needed. Rename the font from .ttf to .font. Ex. Change Ubuntu-R.ttf to Ubuntu-R.font

Step 6: Cut, Copy and Paste the renamed font to the ‘fonts’ folder that you have created.

Step 7: Once done, reboot your BlackBerry handset. That’s it! Go to your screen display settings to check the new font.

In cases that you have a font app installed. It is best if you uninstall the app before you do the steps that we mentioned.
